A Piece of the Story
I got Donald, a regal yellow male labrador from Southeastern Guide Dogs at the end of September 2021, one year after becoming legally blind. he has restored my independence and given me a new sense of adventure. Guide dogs are not for everyone, but a cane was too limiting to me.
Since 2015, I lost so much, my parents, my brother, my sister, my ability to drive, my single family home, my parrot, my job, three dogs, and central vision.
Donald is a new start for me, building a new future.

Quilting

Another piece of the story

I knew I wanted to quilt a the age of 5 sitting at my Grandmothers knee as she handpieced a quilt. I still quilt, even while legally blind. It helps me concentrate, create and relax. Here is Donald at the beach on one of my favorite quilts.
A dog and sand on your favorite quilt, that is just crazy- go ahead and live!

Birding
Another piece of the story
Birds have always been a passion for me. I remember seeing my first eagle in the wild, pileated woodpecker, Great Blue Heron, and my Amazon parrots, Kiwi and Sergio. When I went blind, I decided to start bird photography. Sounds crazy, but the zoom and point and shoot technology allows me to capture images outside and then come home and put them on my computer so I can enjoy the enlarged images. I put these on my Instagram. Donald, being a bird dog helps me spot the birds too!
